CyRIC

CyRIC Cyprus Research & Innovation Center Ltd, is an internationally awardwinning Cyprus-based high-tech company developing breakthrough products for both local and international customers specializing in the fields of IoT, Biotechnology, Unmanned Air and Ground vehicles, Robotics/wearables and AI/ML. CyRIC is the first Business Innovation Center(EU|BIC) in Cyprus, certified by the European Business Network (www.ebn.eu) validating the range and quality of the innovation services provided to local SMEs as well as the incubation services (technical and business support) provided to startups. Through EBN CyRIC has access to the biggest network of Business Innovation Centers that’s serves more than 25K companies per year and raises more than 0.5 Billion Euro. Since 2016, CyRIC has invested and incubated several startups and currently operates the only ICT Incubator in the country, called Gravity www.gravity.ventures. Many of CyRIC Startup’s and spin-offs incubated at Gravity have won local and international competitions and awards.

CyRIC has invested in deploying nationwide LoRaWAN IoT network with its own IoT Network platform and developed subscription services for smart city applications and smart buildings. CyRIC is housed in 500sqm with cutting edge equipment including a state of the art electronics & systems integration lab, a fully equipped machine shop for prototype and machine development, 3D rapid prototyping machines and software packages for 3D Design, FEM, CFD analysis etc. Recently

CyRIC has invested in the setting up of a production facility of IoT devices at their new premises of 2000m² currently under construction in Ergates Industrial Area at the outskirts of Nicosia. CyRIC provides professional Innovation and R&D services to both local and international customers specializing in the fields of: a) engineering design & prototyping, b) electrical engineering, c) embedded electronics and communications, d) internet of things and software solutions, e) mechatronics, f) robotics. In addition, a number of specialised consultancy and entrepreneurship services such as business support, IPR management, Investment readiness and scaling-up services are offered to Start-ups and SMEs.

Managing Director of CyRIC Cyprus Research & Innovation Centre (the certified BIC of Cyprus) and Gravity Ventures Incubator. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and an extended experience in research and innovation project and technical management with more than 100 applied research and industry projects, with more than 20 coordination’s with total budgets > 50million Euro. He is the President & Co-Founder of the Cyprus Association of Research & Innovation Enterprises (CARIE) and Member of the Board of Directors of European Business Network (EBN), the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) and the Cyprus National Research and Education Network(CyNet).’ Dr Philimis is also an Angel Investor and Advisor/Mentor of several startups.

Mrs. Aletia has diverse expertise in overlapping information technology fields giving her the edge that allows her to define a more holistic, sustainable and scalable strategy and solution for clients. These solutions include data modelling, artificial and business intelligence, enterprise knowledge management, data governance and security and user experience optimization. As a certified management consultant, she has an advanced level of knowledge and understanding of project management. In the past 20 years she has been extensively involved in the creation of innovative solution in education and business, delivering dynamic and intelligent solutions. She holds several industry certificates from Microsoft, CompTIA and CISCO, specializing in UI/UX, AI solutions expert, project management, IT, data architecture, system integrations, security and networking as well as a candidate for a Doctorate in Education and Technology.

Mr. Demetris Petrides  is an Entrepreneurship & R&D Officer at CyRIC. He holds an MEng in Desing and Manufacturing from the Dpt. of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras (UoP), Greece, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the UoP. He has over 6 years experience in Project management and research activities after working as a Research Engineer in the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation and Mechanical Engineer Consultant at iMinder LTD in Cyprus and as an Industrial Extension Officer at the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry in Cyprus.

R2M Solution is research and innovation company passionate about making the world a better place. Mr. Thomas Messervey - R2M Founder and CEO

He has over 25 years of engineering and business experience. As R2M CEO, he is acting in the strategic management of the company, research, consulting activities and sales activities, and in the professional development of staff and growth of R2M branches and affiliated companies. In addition, he currently serves on the executive committee of Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italia) and is a co-organizer of the Sustainable Places conference series. He has served as a reviewer and expert for the European Commission on various topics related to innovation and impact and has served as a member and reviewer for various associations.

Mr. Marco Pietrobon - EU Project Manager, Researcher, Sustainability Engineer

As building engineer, researcher and consultant, since 2008, he built experience as project manager of european projects for technical research and development, for awareness rising and training, for energy policy support in the field of nearly-zero energy buildings – nZEB and passive houses, of indoor comfort conditions for buildings users, for technical solutions to improve energy efficiency levels. He worked on field for measuring and monitoring of energy and comfort conditions in buildings and for HVAC systems controls. He performed dynamic energy simulation campaign for buildings and systems.

Mr. Filippo Chiesa - Engineer and Energy Modeler, Innovative Products & Sustainability

After his Bachelor Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a post-degree Master in Sustainable Buildings and Infrastructures, in R2M, he is active part of the Energy Modeling team and mainly deals with dynamic modeling of buildings and urban neighborhoods, Commissioning activities, improvement of urban comfort with green planning. Furthermore, he supports the Innovative Products division in the activities of scanning, scan-to-BIM, and digitization processes of buildings, and of monitoring of energy and comfort performance of buildings, for their optimization, to reduce emissions and improve their livability.

REHVA

REHVA is The Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning associations founded in 1963. We are an umbrella organisation that represents over 120,000 HVAC designers, building services engineers, technicians, and experts across 26 European Countries. REHVA provides its members a strong platform for international professional networking, and knowledge exchange pursuing the vision of improving health, comfort, safety, and energy efficiency in all buildings and communities. REHVA contributes to technical and professional development, follows EU policy developments, and represents the interest of its members at EU level and globally.

In these areas, REHVA has a significant impact on national and international strategic planning and research initiatives, as well as on the associated educational and training programmes. REHVA is committed to advancing its programs and services for young engineers, by helping them build their professional foundations. This is achieved through the exchange of technical information, practical experience, and research results by REHVA’s working groups, seminars, publications and journal.

REHVA's mission is to develop and disseminate economical, energy efficient, safe and healthy technology for mechanical services of building; to serve its members and the field of building engineering (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) by facilitating knowledge exchange, supporting the development of related EU policies and their national level implementation.

Project Consultant

Building Services Engineer (BSc & MSc) with 12 years’ experience in design, installation, commissioning, operation, and research of technical building systems (e.g. heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, solar shading, building automation, and controls) with a complementing political 'dimension' i.e. sound knowledge and understanding of EU's decision-making process and EU's climate and energy policy framework (specifically buildings related) acquired while working as a lobbyist for eu.bac and further developed during technical advocacy activities at REHVA. Furthermore, Andrei is experienced with EU Projects e.g. HealthVent, neZEH, Mobistyle, CEN-CE, ALDREN, U-CERT, EPC RECAST, SmartLivingEPC and EC Service Contracts e.g. EPB Center (EPB standards). Currently he is working as Building Performance Adviser at REHVA, Executive Director at EPB Center and conducting in parallel applied research on human behavior and smart buildings as an industrial PhD Candidate at KTH Royal Institute of Technology with assistant supervision from "Politecnico" University Turin and "Politehnica" University Timișoara. All this with the long-term intention of playing his role in supporting the digital transformation of the European building stock which in turn will enable and facilitate to arrive by 2050 at healthy, safe, efficient, flexible and zero-emission buildings for the people.

EU Project Officer

Mrs. Sofia Bazzano is an EU Project Officer with 5 years of experience in managing EU projects and EU funds (H2020, HE, Erasmus+, FPI Framework Contracts, DGREFORM) in different fields. At REHVA she is in charge of implementing and managing EU projects, supporting knowledge dissemination and communication to our members and stakeholder network, as well as assisting the work of the REHVA Technology and Research Committee and expert Task Forces. Mrs. Sofia has a master’s degree in international communication and a strong experience in communication, outreach, and dissemination projects, as well as in events, workshops organization, and stakeholders’ engagement.

IsZEB

IsZEB – A New Cooperative Formation For The Construction Sector

At IsZEB we are working towards the combination of ICT technologies with Energy Solutions in order to establish Smart Building Energy Certificates, that leverage existing and new technologies such as the Energy Performance Certificates and the Smart Readiness Indicators, as well as a guide of best practices on the creation, operation and maintenance of Smart Zero and Positive Energy Buildings. Our goal is to interconnect science, innovation and the economy, with all stakeholders in the construction and renovation sector of buildings, with regards to the criteria of Smart Zero and Positive Energy Buildings. Established in the region of Central Macedonia, the cluster includes the leading Greek companies and authorities in the field.

Project Members

Afroditi Zamanidou is the Project Manager of IsZEB for the EU-funded research projects. She holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (AUTh) and a MSc in Law & Engineering for Energy (AUTh). She is also a PhD student in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of UoWM. She has been a researcher (2019-2022) in the Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute of CERTH. As part of her doctoral thesis at the University of Western Macedonia, she participates in numerus European research projects on smart energy systems during decarbonization. Her scientific interests are in the field of decarbonization of energy systems, the application of deep machine learning models and the prediction and optimal management of energy. Since 2016 she has been working as a Civil Engineer participating in several private projects.

Mr. Evangelos Sakalakis is a programmer and research assistant of IsZEB's European research projects. He is a graduate of the Informatics department of AUTH, majoring in "Networks - Communications and Systems Architecture". During the last 2 years he has researched the Privacy of 5G networks, thus completing his thesis. Additionally, he served as a member of the Research & Informatics directorate, during his military service.

CLEOPA

Cleopa GmbH is a well-established R&D performing ESCO (Energy Service Company) based in Brandenburg and provider of innovations in the energy sector since 1998, offering a wide range of consulting services. Dealing as efficient as possible with energy topics of our time, it offers solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption of buildings (residential, industrial, etc.) including realization of Energy Audits according to DIN EN 16247-1. Cleopa is trusted very well with the chances and challenges of energy efficiency projects, which is based on its long-standing activity in the energy consulting. The company offers tailor-made solutions for other companies that want to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their public image from an ecological point of view and at the same time meet economic requirements.

Moreover, Cleopa is active partner in several research and innovation EU and National projects with a focus on energy, smart services, security, data protection and business modelling. It is made up of an international partly on-site, partly remotely team with high quality standard and friendly fast service. Since 2018 Cleopa has started to address the new Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) and has done many calculated many SRI indices for buildings.

Mr. Detlef Olschewski is the CEO of Cleopa, serial entrepreneur and loves innovation. Given his expertise as an industrial engineer, he is pushing towards better solutions and improvements in the projects. The background of consultancy and engineering in many energy and resource efficiency projects has made him a strong supporter for carbon free business and circular business models. In the Cleopa business activities, the company is addressing Smart Services and artificial intelligence to develop better solutions. He is regularly giving lectures at universities throughout Europe.Mr. Detlef has a good history of participating and coordinating national and international research and innovation projects. In the last years he is intensifying also the standards activities in DIN and CEN workshops.

Ms. Laura Martínez is Industrial Design Engineer and holds a master’s degree in marketing and International Business. She’s currently employed at Cleopa as Design & Communications Specialist, where she is involved in different European and national research and innovation projects in the field of energy efficiency, being responsible for the design, marketing, and communication actions. Over the course of her professional career, she has specialized in several areas: UI/UX, digital marketing, branding, social media, copywriting, market research & analysis. Her technical background in engineering allows her to combine these creative and analytical skills with the capability to perform R&D technological tasks. In consequence, she can face communications having a deeper knowledge and understanding about the project’s topics, ensuring a successful communication and dissemination. She’s a professional with a multidisciplinary profile who was worked for companies in The Netherlands, Germany, and Spain. 

ASRO

Romanian National Standards Body (ASRO), is a private body of public interest, which represents the organizational frame for the Romanian standardization activity (recognized by the Romanian government and notified to the European Commission). ASRO represents Romania in the international standardization process by coordinating national activity and by organizing the exchange of information on standards. Therefore, ASRO plays a key role in the economic development and in the increase of the performance of Romanian companies on the national, European and international market. ASRO is a full member of CEN and CENELEC, as well as an observer member of ETSI.Likewise, ASRO is a member of ISO (1950) and IEC (1920).

With approx 160 national technical committees ASRO coordinates national standardisation activities and facilitates the participation of Romanian stakeholders in international and European standardisation organizations.
Covering both electro-technical and non-electro-technical areas, ASRO is the recognized organization for managing formal standardisation activities in Romania, assuring public information in the field of standards and standardisation.
As a national standardisation body, ASRO will be involved in the project as part of European and international standardisation. Based on its standardisation experience and expertise, ASRO will identify all the existing relevant standardisation documents at national, international and European levels related to the project field.

Head of the Project Management and Training Unit

Dr. Eng. Speranța STOMFF graduated in 1985 the University “Politehnica” from Bucharest, Romania and in 2004 obtained the PhD title at the same university, in the area of Material Scince. Since 2003 she has been working at ASRO as an expert, project manager and senior lecturer. In present she is leading the Project Management and Training Unit.
Dr. Stomff has experience in several European Funded Research projects (FP 7 , FPA, HORIZON 2020, HORIZON EUROPE, LIFE+), where she was the leader of several work packages and tasks. Also, she has led and was part of the several projects funded by European Commission as Technical Assistance projects, Twinning projects, TAIEX projects, ERASMUS + etc. (implemented in Moldova, Ukraine, Syria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina etc.). Also, she is a third-party certified auditor for quality and environmental management systems (with IRCA certificate).

Head of Technical Committees and Standardization Sectors&Construction Sector coordinator

Mrs. Cristina Chirea graduated in 2007 from the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest with a master’s degree in Structural Design. She has been working in standardization since 2014 and starting with October 2021, she is the Head of Technical Committees and Standardization Sectors.
is active in developing training materials and providing training and technical assistance related to standardization in Eurocodes, BIM, smart buildings and building energy management systems. She represents ASRO in the specialized technical committees of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration.

Manager Communication & Marketing

Ms. Adina Hațegan graduated a Master of Environmental Law and since 2007 is responsible in ASRO for the public relations activities, with focus on events, communication tools, and external relations, currently managing a team with those responsibilities.
Ms. Hațegan was involved and has experience in several European Funded Research projects (FP 7, HORIZON 2020), where she was handing the dissemination and communication tasks. She also participated in several projects of Technical Assistance (Syria, Croatia) and EU Twinning (implemented in Moldova, Ukraine) with responsibilities on marketing and sales strategies.

Ms. Ana Teodora NIȚIȘI graduated in 2016 from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest. Since 2019 she has been working at ASRO as an assistant project manager. She is also involved in administrating training and professional skills development programs carried out in and by ASRO.

Mr. Nicolas Bossé leads the expansion and positioning of BrainBox AI’s pioneering offering for the global energy markets. Nicolas has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, with a deep understanding of the global competitive energy market dynamics and regulatory frameworks. He creates value through innovative transaction structures in the rapidly evolving energy sector.Mr. Nicolas has held roles in regulatory affairs, investments, as well as strategy and growth initiatives in companies such as Hydro Quebec and Brookfield Renewable.

Ahead of joining BrainBox AI, Mr. Nicolas was the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Growth Initiatives at Brookfield Renewable. He built and led a team of professionals who covered the North American wholesale energy market design along with the states, provincial, and federal energy policies.Mr. Nicolas studied economics and holds a BA from the Université Laval and a masters from the Université du Québec à Montréal.

Mr. Antonello has more than 20 years’ of professional experience in project management, architectural design execution and integrated project activities coordination carried out in Italy and abroad for both public and private clients. He is the Head Sustainability Solutions of Arcadis Italy, who has a multicultural personality with strong problem-solving skills. Mr. Antonello is a professional with several qualification like RIBA, PMP®, LEED AP®, WELL AP®. He has a broad expertise in the construction sector and is the ESG lead in Arcadis Italy.

Mr. Gianluca is an Architect with specific skills in the field of sustainability and energy efficiency applied to the built environment and in the use of digital workflows throughout the design process. In Arcadis Italy, he covers the role of Sustainability & Design Coordinator focusing on energy modelling, life cycle assessment as well sustainability certification management.

Mr. Pedro Correa is a Civil Engineer with a Master’s degree in Building and Architectural Engineering, in which he developed his sustainability skills within the built environment. Mr. Pedro had studied in Brazil, Australia and Italy, allowing him to broaden his perspectives of different material technologies and engineering practices.He is currently involved in the production of ESG reports, sustainability management projects, green certification protocols, such as LEED and BREEAM, and energy modelling of buildings.

Euphyia Tech Ltd

Euphyia Tech Ltd was established in 2021 as a promising start-up in Cyprus. The mission of the company is to develop a range of products and applications to promote and establish the assessment of the intelligence of buildings and building systems. Euphyia Tech Ltd staff was involved in numerous research and development projects, in the field of smart buildings and services. Euphyia will also support the design and development of Smart² platform (WP3 Leader). Furthermore, it is responsible for the Smart² backend and frontend development (T3.2 Leader), the development of a life cycle costing based methodology, for the monetization of the smartness upgrade of buildings (T4.3 Leader).

Dr. Paris Fokaides, Mechanical Engineer, assistant professor at Frederick University in Cyprus and Chief Re-searcher at Kaunas University of Technology, is the founder of Euphyia Tech. Having spent over 20 years in academia and research and innovation activities, Dr. Fokaides aspires to deliver through Euphyia, a service that will assist the smart building community to further develop and establish the vision of smart buildings and smart cities. Since 2002, Dr. Fokaides has participated in over 30 European and nationally funded projects in the field of smart systems and energy saving in the building sector. Since 2008, he also serves as consultant of the Energy Ministry and of the Department of Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, in numerous projects related to the implementation of the European Acquis, in fields related to energy performance of buildings, the decarbonization of the economy and circular economy aspects. He has also published a number of reports and papers in scientific journals and books on the sustainable built environment and energy savings (h index @ Scopus 32, Nov22).

Ms. Miroslava Belperchinova is a Research Administrator at Euphyia Tech Ltd. Her duties mainly focus on the smooth administration of research programs, the financial and technical management of project implementation, the regular communication with the financing institution and competent authorities, and the accurate implementation of the research program contracts.

EnEffect

EnEffect is an NGO registered in 1992. Its highly skilled professionals have long and proven experience in energy planning at municipal and national levels and in developing and applying energy-efficient solutions in buildings and industrial systems. Its main activities include assistance to the central and local authorities in the development and implementation of energy efficiency policies harmonized with the EU legislation, municipal energy planning and SECAP development, nZEB design and construction, implementation of energy efficiency measures, development, management and monitoring of demonstration projects, networking on a national and regional level; management of the Bulgarian Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources Fund.

EnEffect owns a subsidiary authorized to perform energy audits and energy certification of buildings. More than 200 energy audits have been performed in Bulgaria and abroad. Its team of certified energy auditors is among the best in Bulgaria, continuously influencing the gradual improvement of the energy performance certification process via its engagement in numerous international research activities. Additionally, EnEffect has a broad outreach to the relevant stakeholders’ groups as coordinator of the Bulgarian sustainable energy financing forum, leader of the BUILD UP Skills initiative in Bulgaria since its launch in 2011, and organizer of multiple events on energy efficiency-related topics.

Mr. Dragomir Tzanev – Executive Director of the Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect and an official representative of the Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy. Coordinator of a number of international research projects, including the successfully completed BUILD UP Skills Bulgaria, BUILD UP Skills EnerPro, Train-to-NZEB and Fit-to-NZEB, and the ongoing EXCITE, NZEB Roadshow, BeSMART, MEMS and CONGREGATE, implemented under the EC’s Horizon 2020 and the German Federal Government EUKI programme.

Mr. Dragomir is a regular participant in the UNECE Expert Group on Energy Efficiency since 2011, and as a result of EnEffect's active research and communication activities, in 2020 he became a member of the Scientific Board of the International Passive House Conference. Author of a series of publications and speaker at several international conferences in the field of sustainable energy policies, passive and near-zero energy building principles, energy efficiency and renewable energy training and municipal energy planning.

Mr. Kamen Simeonov – Senior expert at EnEffect with 20-years’ experience in environmental, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. He is a certified energy auditor of industrial systems since 2005 and has participated in many energy audits in industry and buildings. Mr. Simeonov has been project manager of national and international projects in the field of energy efficiency, utilization of biomass, climate change. Key qualifications of Mr. Simeonov are projects’ identification in energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, energy auditing of industrial enterprises and buildings, projects development and management, financial engineering, business plans development and evaluation, climate change projects.

Mr. Aleksander Stankov - 10-years’ experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. He graduated in 2012 the Technical University of Sofia with M.Sc.Degree in "Thermal Engineering". Since 2009 he has been working with EnEffect Consult SPLtd. as technical assistant and since 2011 as a HVAC engineer. Certified Passive House Designer. He has participated in numerous projects on energy efficiency improvement in buildings and industrial systems. Team member and active trainer in IEE and H2020 projects BUILD UP Skills EnerPro, Train-to-NZEB and Fit-to-NZEB; leading trainer in the Bulgarian Building Knowledge Hub with more than 50 training courses conducted. 

Mr. Stanislav Andreev – more than 10 years in the field of energy production and energy efficiency, where he has gained experience in identification of projects, development of energy audits and business plans, and implementation of energy saving measures. Developed numerous business plans and energy audits for assessment of energy efficiency and RES projects. During the last few years Mr. Stanislav is a frequent lecturer in events concerning energy auditing (requirements, quality, approaches) and building
certification.

Ms. Antoniya Novakova – more than 10 years of experience in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation, mainly in developing local policies, reports, analyses and projects. Participated in forums, working and coordination groups on energy and climate topics as well as experienced as a lecturer and trainer. Expert role in the implementation of the National Program for Energy Renovation of Multifamily Residential Buildings in Burgas.

Ms. Teodora Stanisheva - has 4 years of experience in the field of climate and energy projects, and is the PR expert of EnEffect, responsible for communication and dissemination activities, press and media coverage of events, social media accounts maintenance. Ms. Teodora has experience in the development of training materials, workshops, including guides on municipal planning and energy management, communication, and team interactions.
