Smart Square at CLIMA 2025: Driving Smart Readiness Across Europe

Smart Square at CLIMA 2025: Driving Smart Readiness Across Europe

The Smart Square project will be featured in the workshop “Decarbonisation and Digitalisation of Buildings through the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI)” during CLIMA 2025, the REHVA 15th HVAC World Congress. The session will take place on Friday, 6 June 2025, from 10:15 to 11:45 CET, and will also be accessible in hybrid format.

Organised by REHVA, the workshop aims to support the uptake of the SRI across Europe, particularly in Italy, by providing building professionals and stakeholders with tools, knowledge, and real-world applications. The Smart Square project will present its key results, free resources, and contributions to the development of Europe’s smart building framework.

Smart Square’s Contributions to the Workshop

The session will begin with an overview of the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the updated framework of the Smart Readiness Indicator at the European and national levels. Smart Square’s scientific coordinator will then introduce the project and present the suite of digital tools and standards developed under its framework.

The following key results will be showcased:

  • CEN Workshop Agreement CWA 18193:2025: The first European standard providing guidance for high-quality smart readiness assessments in buildings.
  • Smart-Ready-Go!: A free, web-based SRI assessment tool available in all European languages. The tool will be demonstrated using signature Italian buildings.
  • Smart Readiness Virtual Training Centre: A free and interactive e-learning platform designed to upskill building service engineers and stakeholders into qualified SRI assessors. The Italian version of the platform will be officially launched during the workshop.

The workshop will also include case studies that illustrate how smart readiness assessments have been implemented in real buildings, highlighting the practical application of Smart Square tools.

Beyond the Workshop

Throughout CLIMA 2025, Smart Square representatives will be available for live demonstrations and individual discussions. Conference participants will have the opportunity to explore how SRI assessments are carried out, learn about tool functionalities, and discuss with the experts.

Who Should Attend

This session is intended for building service engineers, designers, and inspectors; building owners and asset managers; policymakers involved in EPBD and manufacturers & industry representatives focused on smart solutions for the built environment.
