Smart2 Project Showcases Energy Efficiency Innovation at Sustainable Places 2024

Luxembourg, September 2024 – The Smart2 project proudly participated in Sustainable Places 2024, held in Luxembourg on September 24-25. This event is recognized as a key platform for disseminating research, hosting workshops, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the realm of sustainable building practices. It brought together global experts, researchers, and industry leaders to explore actionable solutions that address critical sustainability challenges, all aligned with the European Commission’s Societal Challenges and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. With a focus on topics such as energy security, renewable energy, and increasing the rate of building renovations, Sustainable Places plays an essential role in shaping how cities and buildings are developed sustainably. The Smart2 project contributed significantly by showcasing its innovative tools designed to enhance smartness and energy efficiency in buildings.

Workshop: EPBD Implementation – Smartness for Energy Efficiency

Smart2 was prominently featured in the “EPBD Implementation: Smartness for Energy Efficiency” workshop, where Dr. Paris Fokaides, the Scientific & Technical Manager of the project, represented the project during the session. He highlighted innovative tools aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in buildings through the integration of smart technologies. The workshop focused on the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), which has the potential to improve both energy savings and the well-being of building occupants.

Key topics covered during the workshop included:

The role of smart technologies in boosting energy efficiency: Discussions explored how systems such as intelligent lighting, heating, ventilation, and energy management solutions can significantly enhance a building’s performance.

EPBD implementation strategies: The session also provided insights into the European Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and how the SRI scheme is being implemented to encourage the use of smart technology for more sustainable buildings.

Interactive SRI Demonstrations: A Hands-On Experience

Throughout the two-day conference, attendees had the opportunity to engage with the Smart-Ready-Go Tool, a practical innovation from the Smart2 project. Participants could calculate their building’s SRI in real-time, offering valuable insights into the smart capabilities of their homes and buildings. This hands-on experience demonstrated how the SRI tool can accelerate the transition to smarter, more energy-efficient buildings.

Impact of the Smart2 Project

The participation of Smart2 in Sustainable Places 2024 underscores its commitment to promoting smart, energy-efficient buildings throughout Europe. By contributing to discussions on smart technologies and energy efficiency, Smart2 is helping to drive the future of sustainable building practices. The Smart-Ready-Go Tool showcased during the event highlighted the importance of digital tools in assessing and improving building energy performance, reinforcing the project’s role in shaping a more energy-conscious future.
